Getting Started with Crypto Gaming

A Beginners’ Guide to Play-to-Earn Games

Introduction

So there I was having a great time playing video games without a care in the world. Then it struck me… Could I be getting paid to do this?

The thought had crossed my mind many times before, but this time I needed to do something about it. So I put down my controller and fired up a web browser. I was determined to find the answer.

Seriously, it can’t be that hard, I thought. It’s just combining two of my favorite things: cryptocurrency and gaming. After several hours and a lot of research, I had the answer to my question, “How to Make Money Playing Games?”

It’s not difficult, but it does involve some trial and error, and it took me several days to really get the hang of it. No worries, though. I’ve got you covered. Just follow this guide, and you’ll be up and gaming in no time.

Where to Find Blockchain Games

Unsurprisingly, the first thing you need to do is select a game. There are so many crypto games that it can be hard to choose.

A great place to find new, popular, and trending games is: https://playtoearn.net/blockchaingames

Choosing a Genre

As with all games, there are many genres to choose from, such as puzzles, cards, arcade, fighting, racing, role-playing, and more.

What Devices Are Supported?

Another important consideration is which platforms are available to play on. Some games are browser based, some work on Mac or PC, and others are Android or iOS mobile games.

Cryptocurrency Wallets

Many games have a guest or free mode, which allows you to start playing without a crypto wallet.

However, some blockchain games will prompt you to connect a wallet before playing. You should be able to tell which wallets are supported by the options shown when you try to connect. If you’re not sure, check the games’ websites for wallet support.

Most games support the Metamask wallet. If you need help installing Metamask, check out our Metamask Guide: https://cryptodeconstructed.com/how-to-create-a-meta-mask-wallet/

Which Blockchain Does It Use?

Some games are free to play, while others require you to have some cryptocurrency to purchase characters or other in-game items.

Games can be built on a variety of blockchains. The blockchain used will determine the kind of cryptocurrency you need to play. So make sure you understand the cryptocurrency requirements before playing.

The Games

After several false starts and a lot of bad games, I finally got this working.

I discovered plenty of games that don’t require an upfront investment to play. Honesty, I think that is how all blockchain games should be.

Free-to-play games allow users to try games before making a financial commitment.

Not only that, but it also allows users to avoid the process of purchasing cryptocurrency, converting it to the correct game token, and connecting their crypto wallet before knowing if they even like a game.

Splinterlands

Splinterlands is a collectable card game built on the WAX blockchain. It’s available on Android, iPhone, and desktop browsers.

You don’t need to purchase anything to get started, since you receive 30 cards at the beginning of the game.

You can buy, sell, trade, and lease out your cards. Players take part in battles to earn rewards, can create or join a guild, and attend events.

The battles are fast-paced and play out automatically. If you like turn-based card games, then you’ll love Splinterlands. It has great artwork and a massive player base.

The gameplay view is top-down and the graphics are bright, colorful, and very attractive. It’s fun to play and has good game mechanics.

Blankos Block Party

Blankos Block Party is a free-to-play online multiplayer game developed by Mythical Games. The game is built on an Ethereum-compatible sidechain that uses Proof-of-Authority. This makes transaction fees lower and the game much more eco-friendly.

To play the game, you need a halfway decent Windows PC or Mac. Most newer gaming PCs or Apple computers will be fine. You can find out the exact hardware and software requirements by visiting the official website listed below.

You begin your journey as a generic character, but can earn new skins, rewards, and other free upgrades by playing the game. You can also buy, sell, and trade characters and upgrades on the Mythical Marketplace.

The game can be played solo, or you can team up to take on epic quests. Blankos also allows players to easily create their own games with no coding required.

I found the gameplay to be fast-paced, fun, and exciting. I even enjoyed earning new skins and upgrades for my character. The character designs are top-notch, featuring the work of renowned artists like Junko Mizuno, John-Paul Kaiser, James Groman, and Pete Fowler.

I have to admit, this was my favorite of all the games. Even though it is officially still in early access, the game is very polished and fun to play.

Conclusion

Getting started with crypto games usually requires a little more work and patience than with standard games. However, once you’re up and running, you have the added benefit of earning crypto while you play.

After testing several games, the most important factor for me became finding a game I really enjoyed. I don’t think I will earn a full-time living playing games, but I will be getting paid to do something I already enjoy doing.

If you want to earn crypto while you play games, there is no reason why you can’t. Just choose a game and give it a try. If it doesn’t work out, try another game. The most important thing is to get started. Then you just need to be patient and don’t give up.
